Star Skaters Qualified for Atlantic Skating Championships

The organizers of the Robert McCall Memorial Competition are joined by Axel Sponsor Organic Earth Market in releasing Skate Canada Nova Scotia‘s announcement of the Star Skaters who qualified for the Atlantic Skating Championships.

Lantz, NS, January 31, 2018 –  Skate Canada Nova Scotia announced the 60 skaters nominated to represent Team Nova Scotia at the 2018 Atlantic Canada Skating Championships.  Skaters qualified for the team based on their performance and placement at the 2018 Robert McCall Memorial Competition.

Team Nova Scotia will return to the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz, Nova Scotia from April 6 to 8th to compete in 18 events.

“I hope the competition has inspired our young skaters here in Atlantic Canada to work hard, and to embrace the determination to achieve their dreams all the while having fun in the mix, for I feel enjoyment, fun and camaraderie is of vital importance in life’s adventures,” said Evelyn McCall, Robert McCall’s mother. “Rob would have felt so honored to be recognized in this way, and he will always be supportive in spirit.”

Robert McCall inspires skaters from across Nova Scotia by showing that no matter how small your province, town or skating club, every athlete has an opportunity to be a world class athlete. It’s a message the young skaters, nominated from across Nova Scotia and representing fourteen different skating clubs, understand.

The Robert McCall Memorial competition is a testament to the legacy of Rob McCall. McCall was one of the most decorated athletes in Nova Scotia’s history. Nine-time Canadian champion, three-time world champion bronze medalist, and the bronze medalist at the 1988 Olympics. In 2017 he was named one of Nova Scotia’s top 15 athletes of all time. It is in his honour the Robert McCall Memorial Competition is sanctioned by Skate Canada Nova Scotia Section to encourage skaters in both the competitive and StarSkate streams to pursue their personal best and maybe even their own competitive dream.
